About Hopeworks
Brian Kendall Whelan, MA, LMHCA
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate in the state of Washington, specializing in working with adults and teens facing addiction, anxiety, bullying, depression, spiritual issues, stress management, and career-related issues. I earned my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwest University.
I use evidence-based theories like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic approaches like attachment theory. I believe this multidisciplinary approach offers a broader range of tools that can be tailored to your individual needs.
Over the course of 60+ years of living and walking with God, I have learned that I am no less broken than any other human being I have encountered. We have all faced storms in our lives. Yet, our shared humanity and God's unconditional love form the foundation of a counseling relationship built on hope, respect, and openness, regardless of background or beliefs.
The degree to which faith influences our professional relationship depends on your beliefs and comfort zone, but you will always have an advocate in me. We will work together to develop a safe, honest, hopeful, and healing environment that facilitates your growth and wholeness.
I have been married for 43 years and have four kids and eight grandkids. I enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and skiing, and indoor experiences like standup comedy and musical theater. I have been a ski instructor, worship leader, recovery leader, and mentor to teens and young adults. I am motivated by relationships and serving God by serving others, particularly those who are hurting, inside or outside of the church. After 35 years in corporate software development, I am moving into the role I believe God has shaped me for, and I could not be more excited. My wife and I love skiing, movies, good food, family gatherings, playing games, and talking about stuff that matters.
